The federal Competitors Bureau has began an inquiry into whether or not trade claims that huge stretches of Canadian forest are sustainably managed represent false promoting.
The inquiry is available in response to a criticism filed by the environmental legislation group Ecojustice, appearing on behalf of eight environmental teams.
These teams allege that the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, which claims to set rigorous requirements for trade, doesn’t do what firms declare it does.
The teams say the initiative nonetheless permits clear-cutting, spraying of poisonous chemical compounds and logging in habitat for threatened species.
